What's driving the fracking boom? Spoiler: it's plastic!

View all news

Last week 4,500 people took the email action to tell our politicians that we don't want to import fracked gas!

Public pressure is working! On Friday we got the debate in the Dail, and now Government must undertake a review of Irish energy security before any further support for the Shannon LNG project can proceed.

We need to keep the pressure on, to make sure the review is independent and Paris Aligned. This fight is only beginning.

If you haven't yet signed our petition to Stop Shannon LNG (the terminal planned to import gas) please take action now and share it widely with your friends.

Say No to Shannon LNG!

We banned fracking in Ireland because of the devastation it causes to people and nature - we cant stand by and watch communities in America be destroyed.

To win against fossil fuel industry we need to connect the dots and pull in our allies. This is a plastic fight too!

Did you know that fracked gas isn't just for energy? It's also used for making single use plastics!

The plastic industry is owned by big oil and gas companies including DowDuPont, ExxonMobil, Shell, Chevron and BP. Despite our best efforts to refuse, reduce, reuse and recycle, plastic production is set to increase 40% over the next decade - because this industry needs a demand for its product.

To take effective action, we need to be informed. Check out this webinar to learn more about the link between plastic and gas, and why we need to come together across environmental and social justice issues to tip the balance of power.

Webinar: Exciting Gas Allies

Exciting Gas Allies - 9th October 11am-12pm
Learn about the link between gas and plastics, but also linking in with agriculture, transport and extractivism.

Here's the direct link to watch the webinar, just tune in at 11am on Wednesday.

The fossil fuel industry is driving single use plastics: materials designed for one use and quick disposal - keeping themselves in business for years to come. We can't let them away with this any longer!

Thanks for taking action!
