Why is everyone talking about 7% and what does it mean?

Friends of the Earth and Stop Climate Chaos Policy Advisor, Sadhbh O'Neill, will be joined by climate scientist Professor John Sweeney at 5pm tomorrow to help us break down what's going on with Government negotiations and climate action demands.

Things are moving fast in government negotiations and it can be hard to keep up. The news is full of the need of 7% emissions reduction target. But what does that actually mean?

Thankfully, Sadhbh and John are here to help make sense of it all, taking us through the science behind this number, whether it's good enough, and what it means for climate campaigning. They'll also be ready to answer any questions you have.

Over the last few weeks, our climate campaigning through the One Future Campaign and Stop Climate Chaos has resulted in hundreds of calls from constituents to TDs - last week's TD Callathon even made RTE News, as you can see in the screenshot below.

It's actions like this that has brought us to this promising yet critical moment - the pressure is working. Never before have we seen such ambitious climate policy proposals coming from all parties. Join this webinar to equip yourself with knowledge and skill up so that when you get in touch with politicians, you are ready.

Today Fianna Fail and Fine Gael wrote that, "it does not make sense to build new large-scale fossil fuel infrastructure such as liquid natural gas import terminals". This is huge! There's work to do to make sure they follow through but for now, thank you to all the people across the country who have taken action on Shannon LNG over the last few years - in particular the grassroots groups who have fought every day. When we work together and enough of us demand it, we make change happen.
