Check Your Message Message Subject: Edit the email subject line - (optional) Message Text: Dear ... , (each TD will get a separate, personalised email) I was delighted to hear that Friends of the Earth is giving you a copy of The Climate Book for Christmas. Curated by Greta Thunberg, it contains 100 short chapters by experts in all aspects of the climate challenge. As someone from your constituency, I’m right behind this initiative. And I love the fact that people from all around Ireland chipped in to buy all 160 TDs the book. Think of it as a token of your constituents' hope for serious climate action in 2023. I really hope you’ll read it - it’s full of inspiring ideas! As my TD, I really want you to push for the bold climate action we need to stay within the national limit on pollution to 2025 the Dáil adopted on a cross-party basis earlier this year. And the sectoral emissions ceilings the Government adopted over the summer. We urgently need big changes in transport, agriculture, electricity and buildings. As the UN climate science body puts it we need “rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society”. And politicians need to lead this. Time and again the evidence shows the public want action, whether it’s the outcome of the Citizens’ Assembly in 2018 or the recent EPA research that found 36% of the Irish population are “alarmed” about climate change and another 48% are “concerned”. As the Taoiseach put it at the COP in Egypt recently “As leaders, we must lead. Our citizens will become increasingly cynical, weary and hopeless if words are not urgently matched by deeds”. As my TD, I need you to help make sure government, national and local, urgently matches words with deeds. The Government is due to publish the 2023 Climate Action Plan after next week’s cabinet meeting. It’s not too late to let the Taoiseach know that you want it to be bold and brave. And then it’ll be all about implementation, implementation, implementation. At local authority level as well Government level. What can you do to help? Will you urge our local council to get on with spending all the new money that’s available for cycling and walking, for example? In fact, now that your Christmas present from Friends of the Earth is on the way, I’d love to hear what your New Year’s resolution on climate action is for 2023. What will you do to help make sure Irish emissions start falling rapidly next year? Please do let me know, and better still let everyone know, tweet it out. The more politicians that are seen to be pushing for the climate action we need the more likely it is to happen. Wishing you and yours a peaceful Christmas and a hopeful New Year filled with resolute climate action. Yours sincerely, (your name and address will be added here) Edit the email text - (optional) Next Step - Preview your message → Categorised in: Climate Change Tagged with: Faster and Fairer Climate Action
