As a constituent of Dún Laoghaire- Rathdown County Council (DLRCC), I want to thank you for all the work you have done so far on the Living Streets proposal. At the final vote on March 11th, I want to ask you to vote in favour of Living Streets. Both national and local government need to prioritise climate action that is fast enough to avoid the worst excesses of climate breakdown and that is fair enough to leave no one behind. We all know that we need to reduce our dependency on cars in order to reduce polluting emissions; just going electric is not enough. Promoting active travel for daily journeys in urban areas has real potential to cut pollution with knock-on benefits like safe routes for children, air quality, and public health. It’s so great that our local council has led the way in climate action and secured unanimous approval for a new climate action plan. Living streets are an integral part of this plan and a critical component in creating a decarbonized zone in Dún Laoghaire, a commitment of local authority action coming from the Climate Action Law 2021. I really believe that this plan will make Dún Laoghaire’s streets greener, our community more connected, and our town more vibrant. This plan will also support cycling and walking to our village, and safe and clean travel to schools and colleges will be made easier and safer for our young people. A vote in favour of the proposal is also in line with the wishes of your constituents, as shown in the public consultation, where 54% of submissions supported the proposal and only 35% opposed it. At this crucial moment, I urge you, as one of my representatives on Dún Laoghaire- Rathdown County Council, to vote in favour of the Living Streets proposal. Yours sincerely etc, Edit the email text - (optional) Next Step - Preview your message →
