Discover some of the solutions and ways we can embed hope into our activism to sustain us in our continued efforts towards building a just and sustainable future for people and the planet.First webinar in the series, held on June 10th: The Cost of Data Centres in Ireland. Our next webinar is 'Another Energy System Is Possible: Saying no to LNG in Ireland'.When: Wednesday, July 1, 6-7pmWho: Jerry Mac Evilly, Head of Policy Change, Friends of the Earth Ireland & Aideen Ó Dochartaigh, Not Here Not Anywhere. What: The Irish Government is rushing through legislation this summer to provide for a state-owned €900 liquified natural gas (LNG) terminal in Co. Clare. At the same time, the hugely controversial terminal put forward by Shannon LNG for North Kerry is still being considered by planning authorities. We cannot afford to have polluting gas terminals at our doorstep that would lock Ireland into long-term fossil fuel dependence, increasing exposure to volatile global LNG markets, including US fracked gas. It also imposes significant costs on households through new levies. All of this is happening while energy bills for households are skyrocketing amid the fossil fuel crisis being exacerbated by the US-Israel attack on Iran. Now more than ever, the Government should be re-assessing its approach to energy security. The Government should stop the LNG Bill which risks undermining our climate law, democratic safeguards and energy resilience. We want to bring groups together to put forth a strong, unified message to the Government—LNG is the wrong answer for Ireland on climate, environment, security and economic grounds. The Government needs to prioritise our health, safety and climate obligations - not dirty fracked US gas.
