Join us for a very special supporter event this summer!

We are coming together with An Taisce, Feasta, CAIM (Communities Against the Injustice of Mining), Oxfam and The Wellbeing Economy Alliance to host the Dublin premier of 'The Cost of Growth' documentary film in the Lighthouse Cinema at 6pm on Wednesday June 24th.

The Cost of Growth challenges Europe’s growth story by exposing the extractive systems it relies on and the communities that pay the price.  With an international cast, the film connects struggles in Serbia, Italy, and Sápmi to wider fights for justice — showing how communities resist extraction, build solidarities, and expose the violence behind Europe’s economy.

Dublin Film Screening (Landscape))Through intimate encounters with grassroots movements, the film weaves together voices from affected communities and leading thinkers—such as Fati N'Zi-Hassane, Vijay Prashad, Greta Thunberg and Jason Hickel - to interrogate who truly pays for growth, how growth is defended and how we move beyond. You can watch the film trailer here

Following the film screening there will be a rich and engaging discussion exploring themes that arise in the film and how they connect to issues here on the Island of Ireland while exploring the avenues to achieving climate justice and systems change together.

We are delighted to be joined by a special guest and activist from the film, Ida Helene Benonisen, who is a journalist and spoken word poet and member of the Norwegian Sámi. Ida is a prominent feature in the film because of their activism defending their indigenous traditions, people and land. Sámi are the traditionally Sámi-speaking indigenous people inhabiting the region of Sápmi, which today encompasses large northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and of the Kola Peninsula in Russia.

There will also be a drinks reception in the Lighthouse Cinema bar where you can enjoy some refreshments while connecting with other supporters and allies and share your insights from the film and discussion.

Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to support Palestine liberation via Friends of the Earth International.
