June 10, 2025 View all news Words of condemnation are not enough; the Irish Government must act if it's serious about opposing the genocide We condemn Israel’s interception of the Madleen as it was trying to get desperately needed food and medicines to people who are starving in Gaza. We welcome Simon Harris’s statement on this and we ask the Tánaiste to demand safe return of all activists including Greta Thunberg. However his words are far from enough - the Irish Government must act as follows if it’s serious about opposing the genocide: ➡️End trade with Israel & pass an Occupied Territories Bill that includes both goods & services➡️Stop the Central Bank from facilitating the sale of Israeli war bonds➡️Stop weapons transport through ShannonThe Madleen’s crew are getting lots of attention due to their European privilege (most of them) as well as Greta Thunberg’s profile as a climate activist. As we stand with them we remember the 55,000 Palestinians who have been murdered by Israel without major action from political leaders. Other efforts to break the siege, including a humanitarian convoy from Tunisia are also underway, whose crews do not have as high a profile. Volunteers in all such convoys must be protected. Lifesaving food and medicine must be allowed into Gaza.
