October 30, 2025 View all news Governments must put people before big polluters. The devastating hurricane that has ripped through the Caribbean is testament to what happens when they don’t. It’s also a testament to the injustice of climate change. The communities left reeling from the worst impacts of Hurricane Melissa have little responsibility for the climate crisis.Instead, the intensity of hurricanes like Melissa was ramped up by climate change fuelled by the emissions of wealthy, heavy polluting countries. Countries whose governments have chosen to put polluters before people. We’ve got to change this! A better world is possible. But we’ve got to demand it.That’s why Friends of the Earth will be taking to the streets of Dublin to call on the Irish Government to put people before polluters on 15th November. We’ll be joining the national Climate March, organised by the Stop Climate Chaos coalition and we’d love you to join us. Register your interest in joining the march here to receive further updates from Stop Climate Chaos about the march, including volunteering opportunities and information on buses that will travel to Dublin from different parts of Ireland. The march will start at 1pm from the Garden of Remembrance, Dublin 1. Join the Stop Climate Chaos mailing list about the national Climate MarchWhether we live in Jamaica or Jobstown, Haiti or Hacketstown, we all deserve to have our safety, health and basic needs put before the profits of big polluters. We all deserve to live in a home that’s not at risk of being swept away by a climate change-supercharged hurricane. We all deserve to have decent quality homes that we can afford to heat, to be freed from reliance on extortionately expensive fossil fuel heating, to have good quality insulation that keeps our homes warm. But at the moment, far too many of us do not have the warm, safe homes we deserve. The Government is putting the desires of big polluters before people’s basic needs. It is letting data centres spew out pollution and guzzle up energy at frightening rates. This is not only fuelling the climate crisis but also pushing up the cost of energy bills for households and ordinary people. To make matters worse, the Government wants to build a state-controlled Liquefied Natural Gas terminal, and facilitate a commercial LNG terminal, both of which would again fuel climate breakdown while also adding huge costs to our energy bills. It’s time to say enough is enough. To raise our voices and call on the Government to put people before these big polluters. Join the Climate March with Stop Climate ChaosAt Friends of the Earth we’ll be marching to demand action from the Government to say ‘no’ to big polluters like data centres and LNG, to support better insulation and building standards in our homes, to provide better public transport so we can all move around freely. We want to see cleaner alternatives to dirty, expensive fossil fuels so that we can make skyrocketing energy bills a thing of the past. I really hope you’ll join us in marching for the world you deserve. History shows us that ordinary people, joining together to demand action, can be a powerful force for change. Recent social and cultural movements in Ireland have generated remarkable change. We know that a better world is possible - so let’s raise our voices to demand this by joining the Climate March on 15th November.
