Resources and Info on our Divestment Campaign

Divest Ireland is a grassroots campaign focused on divestment of Irish pensions from fossil fuels. This is a very crucial part of Ireland’s responsibility to lower our carbon emissions and fulfil our climate commitments. We also want to push for more sustainable fund options to be provided to Irish pension holders. We are all members of One Future, who have come together to demand action from Irish pension providers, employers and the government. As well as the below actions we have also produced a guide with more information for workers here

Ways to take action

24th of March is Divestment Day - a day to ramp up the pressure on toxic fossil fuel companies. We're inviting all workers to take action with us on the 24th to show the demand for divestment in Ireland. Sign the pledge to take action on the 24th here

  • Contact your employer and tell them you want your pension to be divested from fossil fuel investments. See our template below!
  • Talk to your co-workers and organise to talk to your employer as a group.
  • Contact your pension provider
  • Join our group! You can get in touch with us at divestireland@gmail.com

You can use this email template below to contact your employers:

"24th March is Divestment Day, a day for taking action to divest from fossil fuels.  I am emailing you to ask how [our organisation] can take steps to remove fossil fuels from our pension fund investments.

The Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, speaking on the launch of the 3rd IPCC report, says:  ‘Investing in new fossil fuel infrastructure is moral and economic madness.  Such investments will soon be stranded assets — a blot on the landscape and a blight on investment portfolios.”

Fossil fuel companies continue to invest in fossil fuel exploration and extraction which is locking us further into the climate crisis.  I would like [our organisation] to request our pension providers to remove fossil fuel investments from our pension scheme."

You can use this email template below to contact your pension fund providers:

"I work for [employer] and my pension is invested with [pension fund provider name].

Fossil fuel companies continue to invest in fossil fuel exploration and extraction which is locking us further into the climate crisis.  Fossil fuel investment is unsustainable and as the Divestment Database reports, over $40 trillion dollars worth of investment has already been divested from this volatile industry.

As your client, this issue is important to me, and I would like to ensure that my pension is divested from fossil fuels.  Please let me know how I can achieve this.

I look forward to hearing from you."
