December 21, 2025 View all news Wishing you a restful winter solstice Before we pause for a well-deserved break, we wanted to express our deepest gratitude for your support. The generosity of this community is truly inspiring, and it means so much to all of us at Friends of the Earth. Everything we do is made possible by people like you, who are standing up for climate justice and demanding real change for our shared future. Thanks to your support, 2025 has been a year of real people-powered progress. Across our policy, advocacy, solidarity, and community-building work, we’ve seen just how powerful collective action can be. From Dublin to Cork and far beyond, communities have mobilised through local actions, climate marches, and packed public events, showing just how deeply people care about the future we’re creating together.Together, we’ve secured important wins. We helped bring the impacts of data centres firmly into public and political focus, pushing this long-overdue issue onto the national agenda. Through our Warm Homes for All campaign, we also saw meaningful progress in this year’s Budget, steps that will help make homes warmer, healthier, and more affordable, while reducing emissions and tackling energy poverty. These are just a few examples of what we’ve achieved together. It’s also been wonderful to see so many Cuppa for Climate gatherings - our coffee morning with a difference - which helped create moments of connection, conversation and community. Most recently, seeing people come together in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal was a powerful reminder that climate action is happening in every corner of Ireland.Moments like these matter, especially at a time when it can feel like progress is slow or support is lacking. Just last week, we hosted a panel event inspired by Rob Hopkins’ book How to Fall in Love with the Future, and we want to share with you a couple of his words as we are heading into the new year:“Individuals around the world systematically underestimate the willingness of their fellow citizens to act. This perception gap poses challenges to further climate action. What’s missing is not public support, but a life-affirming narrative that people feel excited about and included in — something to run towards, rather than run screaming from.”This is exactly the work we’re committed to — building a people-powered movement rooted not only in urgency, but in possibility, solidarity, and a shared vision of a better future. As we look ahead, we know there is still so much work to be done. But the wins, lessons, and strengthened communities of this past year give us a strong foundation for what comes next. So, whether you donated, fundraised, joined an action, marched for climate justice, attended an event, or simply stayed informed and engaged - a big thank you. If you’d like to continue standing with us into 2025, please consider making a donation today. Every gift, no matter the size, helps us keep pushing for a faster and fairer future and build the movement we need.We want to share with you a few words from our CEO:Watch the videoToday, on the winter solstice, the longest night of the year invites us to slow down, reflect, and restore. It’s a moment to embrace the natural rhythm of slowing down and taking rest. Just as nature takes this time to gather strength for the brighter days ahead, we too must care for ourselves and one another. We hope you can give yourself a well-deserved rest before we step back into action in the new year.Thank you for being part of this journey with us and for your support. We're really looking forward to continuing our vital work together for a just world where people and nature can thrive.Blog by Ruth Jedidja Stael, Supporter Care and Fundraising Officer Categorised in: Friends of the Earth Climate Change Tagged with: Climate Justice Community Care Community Power System Change
